Does the Rearing Station have concerns about Whirling Disease?
In November 2001, the station underwent construction to prevent whirling disease from infecting the fish. Whirling disease is a parasite that attacks cartilage of young fish, resulting in deformities and often death. In order for the parasite to survive, an aquatic worm must be present in the waters. By replacing dirt rearing ponds at the station with new concrete ponds the worm is less likely to survive and we can help prevent the spread of the disease. You can find more information on the parasite in the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website. Trout fishing near the rearing station is available at the three ponds located near the station and along a one-mile stretch of the East Fork River. Please visit the Boulder Rearing Station located 15 miles south of Pinedale on Highway 191, then 1.5 miles east on Boulder Rearing Station Road. You may contact the Boulder Rearing Station at: P.O.
