Does the public support GLBT rights?
One of the surprising facts we learned when we circulated our petitions was how many individuals believe that GLBT discrimination is ALREADY illegal. People are surprised to hear that GLBT individuals can be discriminated against, and they have no recourse. The majority of people believe it is unfair to discriminate against GLBT individuals in employment, housing, education, and public accommodations. A national Harris poll (2005) indicated that 76% of Americans strongly agree that employees should be measured by their job performance, not their sexual orientation.
