Does the protein-rich Perpetuem effect sweat rate, hydration, or metabolism?
I am not familiar with any studies that conclude that a small protein fraction inhibit sweat rate. I do agree that too much protein requiring an acidic medium in route to the gut would create digestive problems if an athlete were overheated and diverting too much serum volume into distal evaporative muscle cooling. Protein requires time to digest based on converting multi-peptide links into individual amino acid substrates. Less or lower protein fractions of say up to 15% are digested easily as Soy mixed with maltodextrins and a small amount of fatty acids. Perpetuem contains roughly 77% carbohydrates, 13% lysolecithin fatty acids, and 10% protein from easily digested Soy Isolates. This macronutrient profile was formulated for long slow aerobic exercise in any temperature or humidity range lasting longer than 5 hours duration, though to my surprise a track sprint rider recently told us that her used Perpetuem worked quite successfully for his sprint event.
