Does the proposed development propose the right kind of repairs or changes to the ancient monument?
Any work to an ancient monument needs permission from the government, including simple repairs. The government will decide if the proposed development is right for the ancient monument. They will ask the advice of English Heritage, an organisation set up by the government to give advice on all old buildings. FOR EXAMPLE, a grassy meadow may contain an ancient burial mound. Proposals to manage nettles and trees would help the mound to survive, but proposals to build a house would destroy the mound.
