does the Proficiency Index include retest scores?
No. Only students taking the MCAS for the first time during spring of their 10th grade year are included in the Proficiency Index. The December retests, which do not distinguish Proficient from Needs Improvement, would not be a valid measure of a school’s progress toward proficiency. However, the Department will continue to report the percentage of students who passed on a retest and the overall percentage of students eligible to graduate.
