Does the process involve incineration?
Since the heating process takes place under contained conditions and in the absence of oxygen, it does not involve burning and therefore is not a form of incineration. Under the Renewables Obligation Order 2002, pyrolysis and gasification are referred to as advanced conversion technologies , and qualify under the legislation as a form of renewable energy. By contrast, incineration does not qualify under the Renewables Obligation.
