Does the process involve any genetic modification?
The process to produce F1 oil palm hybrids does not involve any genetic modification, as can be seen from our answer to Question 2. Instead, our focus will be on identifying superior quality homozygous doubled haploids for use as parents to produce F1 oil palm hybrids. Our goal is to produce about 30 F1 oil palm hybrids at any one time with different traits to meet the needs of the oil palm and global food industry. Some desirable traits we hope to achieve include disease and pest resistance, long bunch stalks and less loose fruits.
