Does the PMCID need to be noted in the literature cited section and the publication list?

As of May 25, 2008, NIH applications, proposals, and progress reports must include the PubMed Central reference number when citing an article that falls under the policy and is authored or co-authored by the investigator, or arose from the investigator’s NIH award. This policy includes applications submitted to the NIH for the May 25, 2008 due date and subsequent due dates. A PMCID is required for demonstration of compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy for manuscripts three months post publication and beyond. See Include PMCID in Citations for more information. See Reminder Concerning Grantee Compliance with Public Access Policy and Related NIH Monitoring Activities for more information on where to cite the PMCID.
