Does the phrase “socially incongruous” make sense? As in two people being socially incongruous?
‘Socially incompatible’ is a better phrase. ‘Incongruous’ usually refers to one thing, while ‘incompatible’ compares two things. If you’re talking about two people, they could be incompatible with one another, but if they were ‘incongruous’ it might mean that they seem incongruous to one another, or that together they are incongruous to the rest of the world. It’s like saying ‘Paul and Jane are alone’. Does that mean that each of them is alone, or that they are together somewhere alone?
