Does the Pan American Games Security Plan include programs designed to benefit local residents?
Among our programs dedicated to prevention there are many new programs that aim to further social inclusion, such as the Program for Civilian Guides, the Rescue Brigade, programs directed to homeless children and youth, programs designed for family care and Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Could you tell us a little more about each program? The Civilian Guides Program will train ten thousand youths age 14 to 24 to work during the Pan American Games as tourist guides. During the course they will be taught about citizenship, ethics, tourism and will have English and Spanish classes. Participating youths will be selected by community leaders, being eligible for food, reading material, uniforms, transportation and tickets to visit Rio’s many touristic attractions, as well as a small stipend. The Commission is concerned with bringing these youths out of social exclusion, and we are looking for partnerships with private enterprises to place them in the job market.
