Does the online class address students’ multiple intelligences?.
The author of this paper argues that online classes tend to accommodate students’ learning styles more readily than traditional classes. She contends that online classes improve learning potentials for students who usually struggle in the traditional class settings due to mismatches between the students’ learning styles and the rigid, traditional class structure. Using Howard Gardner’s framework of multiple intelligences, the author explains how the online class structure addresses each one of the eight intelligences as described by Gardner. She also shows how the online class compares to the traditional class in addressing the students’ multiple intelligences. Additionally, the author reports on the results of a survey that elicits students’ responses of their perceptions of how the online class addresses their learning needs. The research offers educators many insights on how they can accommodate their students’ learning styles in the online class.
