Does the Officiant expect a gratuity?

No. If we were your church pastor, and you were marrying in your church or other location, then your pastor would not be receiving a fee (or would be receiving a minimal one). Thus, a gratuity or honorarium is appropriate. As independent officiants, we receive an agreed-upon fee, and expect nothing more (other than any travel expenses). If you feel moved to give your officiant a gratuity, that is lovely, and thank you, but it is not expected, nor is it necessary. In the case of ministry wedding ceremonies, such as those outlined on the Active Duty Military page, those performed without charging a fee, then a donation is welcome.
