Does the offence type static factor relate to the gravity of the offence?
No. The formula for the static factors was designed to increase the predictive accuracy in determining the likelihood of reoffending rather than considering the gravity of the offence. The two offence types included (motoring offences and burglary) were, at the time the Asset research was conducted, shown to be the most prevalent offences for those young people who went on to reoffend. The “offence type” static factor relates to the offence that triggers the current assessment. If there are multiple offences then this refers to the most serious offence.
