Does the Motorola SB5120 not require drivers if using the Ethernet cable?
Ethernet is a wonderful technology. I commend you on your choice of using the Ethernet option over the USB option, and you’ve already discovered one of the reasons. You’ve correctly guessed the reason why there are no “Modem Ethernet” drivers: they’re totally unnecessary. Ethernet is the most commonly-used computer networking standard in use today, with (I would guess) 98% of new computers coming off the line with some form of Ethernet connectivity built right in. And, so long as the Ethernet port on your computer works fine, you are able to connect to any other Ethernet-compatible device without any other drivers. Basically, if you connect to the modem with USB, your computer will treat it like every other peripheral device (e.g. printers, digital cameras, scanners, etc.) attached to it. In this scenario, the computer is in control of the actual operation the modem, which is why drivers are necessary. This often results in connection lags and requires some form of custom software whic
