Does the modem work wherever there is cellular coverage?

Unfortunately, no. The 1x technology is the latest technology for data transmission through a cellular network. The cell towers, to be able to transmit over the 1x network, need to be upgraded. A fair number of the existing towers have been upgraded, but not all. These upgrades are happening faster than you may think. In Ontario, Telus and Bell have roaming agreements that allow 1x users from either carrier to connect to the internet using each others towers, depending on whose tower is closest.
