Does the MI FairTax burden the retail industry?
All Michigan retail businesses that sell goods collect the sales tax, currently. The MI FairTax would require that retail service providers also collect the sales tax. A provider of goods or services will likely be able to deposit taxable sales into a bank account, from which the bank would make automatic payments to the state without any effort on the part of the retailer.
