Does The Metropolitan Operas Orchestra rehearse?

No, it is not true. The MET orchestra rehearses regularly. The entire orch doesn’t perform nightly – there are extra players for the big Wagner operas and, of course, smaller operas like Rossini and Handel use much smaller orchestras. Granted, operas that are done regularly need only a brush up rehearsal or two. New productions are strenuously rehearsed! Remember the MET orchestra also does concerts in Carnegie Hall and other venues from time to time. Yep. They rehearse. A lot!
