Sunday, May 09, 2004 Michael Chrisofos*, Andreas Skolarikos, Nikolaos Ferakis, Odysseas Sopilidis, Ioannis Kastriotis, Charalambos Deliveliotis, Athens, Greece INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to evaluate if different treatment options of an accidental bladder perforation during TUR of superficial bladder tumors, impact on extravesical tumor recurrence. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 3410 patients (2950 men and 460 women) who underwent transurethral resection of bladder cancer in our department from September 1990 to September 2000. All patients with a bladder perforation underwent a thorough follow-up, including cystoscopy, examination under anesthesia, ultrasonography, chest x-ray, and abdominal C/T scans on regular intervals. Histology confirmed the diagnosis in all recurrence cases. RESULTS: Forty cases of bladder perforation were documented.
