Does the Making Meaning program correlate book selections to social studies standards?
Although many books in the program highlight important themes and issues from social studies, the book selections do not correlate to any particular set of social studies standards. However, the program contains important strategies that can support students’ reading in social studies, science, and other subject areas. These include exploring the features of expository text, asking questions, determining important ideas, summarizing, and making judgments about text. Social studies and other texts can also be used by students for their independent reading practice.
