Does the mac airport card work with regular wifi routers?

Yes it will. There are various wireless standards; the most common is 802.11B and 802.11G. If you have a G AP, some can be put in B/G mode. Make sure that it is enabled; sometimes B/G is standard and you can put it into G mode only. You will need the B mode active for your machine. Next, it probably only supports WEP encryption, so make sure you are not using WPA or WPA2. WEP isn’t very secure but better than nothing. So you will need to change the other computers to use WEP otherwise they won’t be able to connect. Start with getting the iBook to work and then work on getting the other machines able to connect. The card only works in the Mac but 802.11b, a, g and n are all standards.
