If the LW lives in southern California, he could apply to be on the TLC show “Clean Sweep.” They come to your house and take everything from 2 rooms out to the yard. Then they make you justify everything that goes back inside. They redecorate the rooms and make storage for the stuff you do keep. It takes 2 days and the people are usually upset at first and thrilled by the end. It’s a start. My husband and I both have a hoarder in the family, so I’ve seen it up close. My father-in-law currently has a storage unit filled with 30-year-old magazines. His girlfriend limits the stuff that can be in the house to certain places. My grandmother’s house didn’t get cleaned out until she had a stroke and had to be moved into a nursing home. It took months and hundreds of garbage bags to get everything out.
