Does the Live Butterfly Garden attract butterflies all year round in places like Arizona?
There are over 250 butterfly species native to the southwest, so you definately can attract butterflies in Arizona. Mr. John Begman at the UofA advises that, “Some native and desert adapted plants that provide nectar for butterflies include: red bird of paradise, yellow cosmos, yellow lantana, purple verbena, Mexican sunflower, dalea, catclaw acacia, and chaste tree.” You may want to plant some of these desert plants to attract butterflies. If you are referring to the toy “Live butterfly garden”, this actually includes butterfly eggs and all that is necessary to hatch butterflies in your home. Then, you can release them into the wild. Maybe if you have the suitable plants in your garden, then they will stay with you. Sources: http://ag.arizona.edu/gardening/news/azdailystar/butterfly_gardens.
