Does the linkage (servo-motor) become sloppy after time?

Earlier versions of PerfectPass would unwind the cable from the servo if the throttle was moved before the system booted up. The 1999 and later software update completely eliminated this occurrence with the automatic tension cycle that is performed each time the boat is started. PerfectPass does not use an ordinary “servo” motor similar to what you may find in model airplanes. In fact, it does not use a servo motor at all. It uses an industrial quality high frequency stepper motor which effectively contains only one moving part – the rotor, rotating on precision sealed ball bearings. This motor is built to last – no plastic parts are contained within the motor at all. There are no little tiny brushes, brush springs, small plastic gears, or small potentiometers as existing in model airplane servos. We know of at least three PerfectPass systems installed on three different boats that have over 1000 engine hours on them – and all of them are still going strong. Dozens of other PerfectPass
