Does the LASDD fellowship have any regional or topical restrictions?

Yes. LASDD funded research must address the relationship among two or three of the major issues of the security, drugs, and democracy in Latin America. Samples of eligible research topics include, but are not limited to, civil society networks and how they mobilize against organized crime and drugs (i.e. what can be done from a non-state perspective); a study of a selection of coca producing communities; the role of DEA or state department, the role of police; how interplay of security, drugs, and democracy affects development; influence of drug traffickers on local state police; etc.
