Does the lake take water from Atascadero creek?
No. The lake works as a drainage and flood control pond. During the winter it captures and buffers runoff from culverts along Mill Station and Cherry Ridge roads. Our ponds slow the muddy water down and allow it to drop some of its silt before travelling gradually through wetland areas and eventually to the creek. During the summer months the lake is fed by artesian wells that have been on the property from the time it was a dairy. Excess irrigation and frost protection water form the adjacent vineyards are drained and captured by the lake. All of the surface runoff from neighboring residences and properties along Mill Station Road between Ferguson and past Cherry Ridge Roads flows towards the lake and pond. If a neighbor over-waters a lawn or a pool overflows the excess surface water likely finds its way into our ponds. As for sub-surface water, the geotechnical engineers were careful to seal the bottom of the large pond above the water table so those waters continue to exist and flow
