Does the KODAK DCP 9000 Proofer show trapping?
The KODAK DCP 9000 does not show trapping because it prints a “composite color PostScript file”. Composite color PostScript files inherently lack the trapping and overprint information. Almost all color PostScript printers lack the ability to show trapping because the type of PostScript file they prisnt has no trapping information. Trapping information is found in a “Separation PostScript file”. Separation PostScript files are meant to be output to a device which creates film or printing plates. Each color layer of a job outputs as a plate (piece of film representing the printing plate). Each color plate is actually a 256 grayscale representation of the color data. These types of PostScript files can carry trapping and overprint information. If such a file is sent to a Composite Color Printer/Proofer like the KODAK DCP 9000 it prints as 4 separateproofs of grayscale data. Some printers/proofers have developed specialized post-processing capabilities so that they can receive a separatio
