Does the ISPS Code require 24-hours monitoring of restricted areas on the ship at security level 1?
Generally, the ISPS Code requires that restricted areas are identified in the SSP as well the security measures taken to control access to them. In this context the company shall set their own policies and procedures to control access to them. Therefore, it is up to the shipping company to decide whether the restricted areas are continuously monitored on a 24-hour basis, however, it has to be ensured somehow that access to them will be controlled.
