Does the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps rule Iran?
“Our differences are not with the people of Iran. Our differences are not with Iran having a peaceful civilian nuclear program,” Gordon Duguid, U.S. State Department’s spokesman, told at a daily news briefing on 12 January 2010. “We do have a sense of urgency. We do want to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapons capability,” he went on to say. Yet it’s getting worse between the U.S. and Iran. This week, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has clearly told her Arab counterparts that although engagement with Iran is still possible, Washington mobilizes its allies to increase pressure against Tehran. Asked about the possibility that the U.S. could attack Iran before or after a withdrawal of the troops from Iraq, she rejected the idea without hesitation but reiterated that the current trend in Tehran is very worrying. She believes that Iran is moving towards a military dictatorship under the authority of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
