Does the Intel Mac Pro architecture allow for processor upgrading?

Both the Mac Pro and iMac allow you to upgrade the processor, however, the Mac Pro is far easier to work on. The real benefit is that you can now buy generic PC processors to do the upgrade. I have known a few people who have done that upgrade with success. Mac desktops have only gotten easier to upgrade in the switch to Intel processors.
