Does the Imperium of man (warhammer 40K) have thermal imaging capabilities?
Hell, yes. Thermal imaging is considered painfully unsophisticated in the 40k background. Space marines have multispectrum passive and active nightvision that feeds directly, via safety baffles to prevent sensory overload, to their brains through implants that connect through their helmets to their skulls. Space marines also possess naturally enhanced vision beyond the normal human spectrum. Space Wolves also possess, through the Canis Helix, a highly enhanced sense of smell that gives them an even more nuanced ability to detect their enemies (when they have their helmet vents open, anyway!). Of course, this isn’t always reflected in games where “nightfighting” occurs and weapon ranges are limited. This is partly a game balance thing, but also reflects the fact that there are different conditions on the million worlds of the Imperium that even the most sophisticated Mechanicus technologies can struggle to penetrate: psychic clouds, radioactive dust-storms, sorcerous darkness… Specifi
