Does the idea of Jesus being married take away from his divinity?
Jesus was man, so marriage is not unthinkable. But He is God and perfect so would not need a spouse to compliment Him. My initial reaction is this – marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman because “it is not good that the man should be alone” so God provided a “helper suitable for him”. (Gen 2:18) Paul says “Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” (1 Corinthians 7:8,9) I think we can all agree that Christ, who is perfect, could surely “control himself” so marriage was not necessary. And finally, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” (Ephesians 5:25-27) So this is the direc
