Does the Humane Society (or other animal charities) help low-income families with medical assistance for their pets?
A directory of animal-assistance charities is given above. Other directories are available from, for instance, Google and Yahoo. There is not, as far as I am aware, a central directory of directories. Check your local phone book under “Pet Assistance” or call the local public library for help from a reference librarian. It might also help to call city hall–some of these charities receive limited public funding, and someone in city hall would know who they are and how to contact them. And, of course, your local Humane Society or animal shelter are likely to know. Most of these charities send the funds directly to the veterinarian or animal clinic, so contact a few of these for information–don’t give up if the first few vet offices say they don’t know anything about it–these charities have very bad relationships with the few greedy veterinarians who want to overcharge.
