Does the Holy Bible provide any proof that Confirmation is a Sacrament?
A. 1. Yes, it does. First, allow me to explain that through the Sacrament of Confirmation, the believer is equipped with spiritual “gifts of the Holy Spirit according to the grace that has been given to us.” [Rom. 12:6] and sent forth by the Bishop as a shining light in the world [Mt. 5:16] “to spread and defend the faith by word and action as a true witness of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross.” (C.C.C. # 1303) The Sacrament of Confirmation is administered by the laying of the hands. [Acts 19:3-6] The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the Sacrament of Baptism. It enables the believer for mission. This was made clear at Pentecost with respect to the apostles. In the early days of the Catholic Church, the Sacrament of COnfirmation was often accompanied by charismatic signs, although such is a not a property of the Sacrament.
