Does the hole in the ozone layer cause global warming?
No. There is understandable confusion because of the relationship between the hole in the ozone layer and the risk of sunburn and melanoma. Temperature (an important variable in global warming) and sunburn are easily merged into one issue. However, CFCs – the main cause of the ozone depletion – do act as greenhouse gases. So a link is that the same air pollutant that causes the hole in the ozone layer also contributes (in a relatively minor way) to global warming.
