Does the HIPPA law affect adoptees who want updated medical information?
No. Adoptees will not have direct access to anyones medical information. They will get this information only if it is provided by the birth parent. If the birth parent requests nondisclosure or no contact, they will be encouraged to update the family history information every 10 years until the birth parent reaches age 40, and every 5 years thereafter.
