Under Subpart K, the hazardous waste code is not required on the label of a container of unwanted material while it is accumulating in the laboratory. The hazardous waste code is required before the hazardous waste is treated or disposed on-site or before it is transported off-site. The hazardous waste code may be on the label that is associated with the container, or on the label that is affixed or attached to the container (see 40 CFR 262.210(b)(2), 262.211(e)(2) and 262.212(e)(2)).
