Does the “H” in 4-H stand for something?
The “H in 4-H actually stands for four different words, each beginning with that letter: Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. These words are also part of the 4-H pledge and emblem. At 4-H club meetings and other 4-H events, members recite the Pledge of Allegiance and this 4-H pledge: “I pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, my Hands to larger service, and my Health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world.” The 4-H emblem is a green four-leaf clover with a white “H” on each leaflet, symbolizing the four Hs. Green and white are the 4-H colors. The 4-H emblem was protected by an Act of Congress in 1924.
