Does the Great Salt Lake ever freeze over?
No. The salinity is too high for the Great Salt Lake to freeze, even when our temps dip to single digits for several weeks (which is not uncommon). The Great Salt Lake is actually very interesting. It is quite shallow for its size, with an average depth of only around 15 feet. This allows the lake to warm rapidly, which creates lake-effect precipitation when cold fronts blow across it throughout the winter and spring months.
