Yes, recently on February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). $10.4 billion has been provided to the National Institute of Health of which one billion has been allocated for federal awards to institutions seeking to construct, renovate, or repair biomedical or behavioral research facility in order to advance research. $300 million will be used to facilitate the purchase of research equipment that will enable scientist and researchers to complete their critical work. The National Eye Institute (NEI), a federal-funded organization, is one of the many institutions who have benefitted from ARRA. NEI will fund a new R03 grant title “AAV-Mediated Gene Gorrection in Retina” to test a novel method of gene targeting to improve gene therapy in OA research.
