Does the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) apply to medical foods?
Yes. FALCPA requires that medical foods labeled after January 1, 2006, include on the label in plain language the food source name of the major allergens (i.e. milk, eggs, fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod), crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, or shrimp), , tree nuts (e.g., almonds, pecans, or walnuts), wheat, peanuts, and soybeans.
