Does the flagrant misuse of the fine English language in modern pop culture infuriate you?
You should read that book “Eats, Shoots and Leaves” by Lynn Truss. It addresses this issue in a hilarious way. I am not bothered if people use slang, bad grammar, abbreviations, etc. for fun or in general daily use. What gets me is when people are trying to legitimately communicate (such as on a job document or a sign) and they make the most basic errors: misspellings, misuse of quotation marks (PEOPLE, THEY ARE QUOTATION MARKS, ONLY PLACE THEM AROUND QUOTATIONS!!! THEY ARE NOT EMPHASIS MARKS!!!), poor punctuation and the like. I am a master’s level professional working with other master’s level professionals and I am constantly appalled at the low standards of writing from my colleagues! Most of them have all of the above mentioned errors constantly and they invent new ones every day. Language is not static, and anyone would be foolish to try to keep it one particular way, but let’s all try to follow the general rules when we want to use words to get our points across.
