Does the fire rated glazing used in doors also have to be safety rated?
Yes, according N.F.P.A – 80 section 1-7.1, “Only labeled fire resistance-rated glazing material meeting applicable safety standards shall be used in fire door assemblies. Exception is where fire door assemblies are exempt from safety standards. (see Glossary “category I and category II, and Impact/Safety Rating”). The International Building Code of 2006 also requires a fire and safety rated glazing for use in doors.
