No, it doesn’t, to both questions you ask. We’ll all done some dumb things in our youth, things we did impulsively and with the carefree and youthful attitude that we’ll never get caught and not really thinking of the future that someday we might want to run for president! Plus, not realizing 20+ years ago that there would be a way to find out every little thing you might have done. If he was STILL doing drugs, that would be another story, but what happened in his youth, can stay in his youth. Of course, other types of criminal behavior WOULD make me lose respect, like rape or murder or other similar crimes. We want people to feel that they can run for public office, even though they might not have a spotless background–after all, who has a perfectly spotless background?
