Does The Engine Draw Water From The Canal To Cool Itself?
On most boats the engine has a closed circuit cooling system, which is cooled by the coolant being passed through a tank mounted on the hull. The tank itself is kept cold by being in constant contact with canal water. It is possible to fit raw water/heat exchanger cooling if specified. This method is sometimes best suited to larger engines. With raw water / heat exchanger cooled engines, cooling water is drawn from within the main ballast tank hence minimising the chance of weed problems within the water strainers.
