Does the Duplex Coating System offer other advantages in addition to the fouling release properties?
A Yes, because boat bottoms remain clean and free of bio-fouling and because of the slick and hydrophobic properties of the silicone Surface Coat, speeds increase and fuel consumption declines. In one recent sea trial, a ships speed increased 10+% compared to a copper ablative anti-fouling coating when operated at the same engine RPMs and the fuel consumption dropped 10%. Results for other craft will vary depending on but not limited to such factors as hull design, weight, equipment maintenance, operating conditions and sea conditions. For power plants, the early results of flow efficiency study when saltwater is pumped through penstocks suggests that an improvement in terms of energy savings can be as much as 18% in steel pipes coated with the Duplex System and as high as 55% in concrete pipes coated with the Duplex System.
