Does the district consider experience and salary when hiring teachers?
Yes. The district goes to great lengths to mentor, train and develops all teachers, especially those promising candidates who are hired early in their careers. This must be weighed against the need to have at least some experienced and accomplished staff in every discipline. Teacher Assistants are mentioned in the contract. What are they and how many does the district have? Teaching assistants are individuals who have gone through a specific certification program to work with students and assist teachers. In Commack, teacher assistants either work with classroom teachers that have special education students or work in computer laboratories. We historically have only hired teachers with teaching certification. This has benefitted the students as they have a teacher assistant certified t teach and the District has a potential future candidate for a teaching vacancy.
