Yes, the diaphragm and spermicide combination offers potential protection from some STDs such as gonorrhea ,chlamydia and trichomonis by providing a mechanical barrier and a bactericidal/viricidal effect. Protection from transmission of HIV, Hepatitis B etc is less certain. This method affords no protection from STDs such as herpes or genital warts (condylomata). The diaphragm has also been shown to reduce the incidence of cervical neoplasia.
