They do have the power to call a referendum on independence.But it will most likely not happen for a while.I would personally say about 10-20 years before a referendum will be called.The reason why is that Protestants vote for the main unionist party (the dup) and catholics vote for the main republican party (Sinn Fein) as you can see from the results dup have won followed by Sinn Fein.But what you will notice in about ten years time is that many catholic children will be eligible to vote because the catholics are having many more children than the protestants.Once or if Sinn Fein do get into power there will most likely be a referendum.
