Does the crystal need to be removed from the oscillator circuit for programming the SX?
The oscillator only needs to be removed for programming if you are using a crystal clock oscillator (TTL driver) as the output will typically not handle greater than 7V applied to it. It does not need to be removed if it can handle programming voltage (12.5V), as a crystal or ceramic resonator can. For debug purpose however the clock would need to be removed so that the debug tool can have control of the clock.
