Does the creation story in the Bible hold up to broad scientific inquiry?
Yes , the creation account , NOT the creationists account, does indeed hold up with the accepted and provable sciences! *** ce chap. 3 p. 26-34 par. 5 What Does Genesis Say? 5″ The Hebrew word yohm, translated “day,” can mean different lengths of time. Among the meanings possible, William Wilson’s Old Testament Word Studies includes the following: — “A day; it is frequently put for time in general, or for a long time; a whole period under consideration . . . Day is also put for a particular season or time when any extraordinary event happens.”1 This last sentence appears to fit the creative “days,” for certainly they were periods when extraordinary events were described as happening. It also allows for periods much longer than 24 hours” How Did Genesis Know? 31 Many find it hard to accept this creation account. They contend that it is drawn from the creation myths of ancient peoples, primarily those from ancient Babylon. — –However, as one recent Bible dictionary noted: “No myth has
It is more relevant in some fields of scientific inquiry than others. I think it would be more relevant in psychology and sociology than in biology. Taken as a story it can be used to understand how humanity thinks and how they relate to each other. The emphasis on biology here in this section is a distraction from the intent and message of the creation story. This field is used to refute a weak yet passionate interpretation of the bible. Archeology and ancient history tend to confirm whatever is written in the bible which relates to these subjects. So for example the genealogies in the bible may record the generations however stories may be attached to these people lives. This links both actual events and spiritual wisdom. If linguistics and a holistic interpretation is taken into consideration then then the creation story points to other populations present at the same time as Adam and Eve. This view conforms to an evolutionary understanding our world. It also places the story in a t
“… It would be perfectly consistent with all we know to say that there was a Being who was responsible for the laws of physics”. Stephen Hawking….American Scientist, 73, (1985). Check out this book, “The Case for a Creator”, by Lee Stroble “As a scientist, I look at the world around me, and observe engineering mechanisms of such remarkable complexity that I am drawn to the conclusion of intelligent design being behind such complex order.”—ANDREW MCINTOSH, MATHEMATICIAN, WALES, UNITED KINGDOM “The complexity of nature clearly points to a Creator. Every biological and physical system, once understood, shows incredible complexity.”—JOHN K. G. KRAMER, BIOCHEMIST, CANADA “The order of the living world is plainly evident. It was set up by a superior Power that I personally call God. It is here that faith agrees with scientific truth. Far from contradicting it, it completes it, providing a simpler understanding of our universe.
